Welcome to Our Blog!

Sunrise in the Country

Hello Finn Farms Friends!

Five years ago, we, city slickers (we wish!), moved from the suburbs that were close-ish to our day jobs onto a relatively large, wooded property in the beautiful Greenville in the far far away land of Orange Country, New York (country because shouldn’t people need a visa to enter this wonderful slice of earth? 😊). Awestruck with our new surroundings (oh the calm, the air, the space between homes, the lovely “normal-people” neighbors and fast friends, the list doth go on), we slowly settled into the earlier mornings (2.30 or 3.30am wake-up, anyone? Is either of those times better than the other? 😊), our long, long commute into New York City (for us adults) and the half mile walk, sometimes in the dark, to and from the school bus stop (for our 11th Grader–because she just wouldn’t be caught dead driving an ATV 😉).

Now that we had some room to swing a cat, our minds started wandering and we thought it would be great to experience clean rural eating – time to get a few chickens! Now, those of you who buy chicks will know that no farm of repute sells five or ten chicks so we started off with a whooping thirty. We watched those babies grow and one day, start to lay eggs. The best eggs we ever saw! Another idea germinated–Oh these ideas!–could we successfully grow poultry to eat? We could, so we did. Pig?–the ideas just kept flowing. We could, so we did. Suddenly, we were blessed with too much food just for us so we started to regularly give eggs and meat away to our family and friends and to … and to… and to… (story for another day) until, one friend–best friend ever! 😊–suggested that we sell our products. In his words, they were superior to any eggs and meat they found in the stores, reminded him of his childhood when “food was real”, and his family and friends would pay for them in a heartbeat. Boom! Another idea–aha!– and Finn Farms was born! Exactly a year ago today, we opened our “e-doors” to our community.

We have struggled (and we are such old timers, we are still struggling 😊) with social media. Until we opened our “e-doors” neither of us adults had ever had a social media account, unless WhatsApp counts 😊. One year later, we are still overwhelmed by the lovely Insta so we got another “rare” 😊 lightbulb moment – what if we started a blog to tell our community who we are, what we are about, life on the farm, how we can help those in need (do look out for our community challenge – we need your suggestions), anything else we can think about? We also know that everyone has a unique perspective and we really do want to hear back from you, our treasured friends. How can we serve you? What do we do right and how can we do better? We value your feedback and insights.

Welcome to our blog, dear friends. We hope that it somewhat enriches your life (even in the smallest way!) and that you come back for future posts.

Stay tuned and God bless you!
